DESCRIPTION

This course presents a  comprehensive review of the legal aspects of LEO Supervisor civil liability using case studies.

PREREQUISITES

Newly promoted Supervisor's are preferred.

Bruce-Alan Barnard, JD, LLM

Bruce-Alan retired from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) as an award-winning Senior Legal Instructor in January 2018 and founded LEA ONE where he is currently the Director.  Bruce-Alan received a B.S. in Adult Education with High Honors from Southern Illinois University and a law degree (J.D.) from the University of Florida. He also has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Auburn University and an advanced law degree (LL.M.) from the University of Alabama.  Upon graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy for ten years conducting covert electronic surveillance on various fast-attack submarines in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.  Bruce-Alan was certified as an instructor and was designated “Master Training Specialist” during a tour as an instructor at the Naval Submarine School.  He was honorably discharged to attend law school. After completing law school, Bruce-Alan was commissioned as a JAG and served ten years in the United States Air Force. In addition to prosecuting cases, he was certified as an USAF Instructor by AETC and taught at the US Air Force Judge Advocate General’s School.  Bruce-Alan was also a Special Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting cases in the Middle District of Alabama.  He retired from the Air Force in the permanent rank of Major in 2007 and accepted a position as a Legal Instructor at FLETC in Glynco, Georgia. At FLETC, he was responsible for curriculum development and was the subject-matter expert for Search and Seizure Law and Electronic Surveillance Law.  Bruce-Alan was certified to teach every legal course at FLETC and has provided training to over 30,000 law enforcement officers.  Bruce-Alan is a member of the Florida Bar, the Florida Association of Police Attorneys, IACP (Legal Section), IADLEST, ILEETA, and NSA.  He is INCI certified by IADLEST and frequently writes for law enforcement periodicals and is often requested to present at conferences. Bruce-Alan also host the podcast Broadcast Blue providing timely legal updates to law enforcement officers.
