DESCRIPTION

YOU MUST HAVE SPONSORSHIP BY A TEXAS LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY TO REGISTER.

The Denton Police Training Academy (DPA) will be holding its Basic Police Officer Course at the Denton Public Safety Training Center.  The course will run for 19.5 weeks and will meet and exceed the TCOLE requirements for peace officer certification (see DPA's BPOC  Rules for Testing and Performance Requirements).  The BPOC will include the following:

  • Introduction, Orientation, and TCOLE Rules Overview
  • Fitness and Wellness, and Stress Management
  • Mechanics of Arrest
  • Physical Training Program (40 hours throughout the course)

The course will be taught by highly qualified instructors from the Denton Police Department and other area agencies.  The course will be held at the Denton Public Safety Training Center.  The facility offers state of the art classrooms and the following instructional technology:

  • VirTra V-300 Use of Force simulator (utilized during practical scenarios)
  • FAAC Inc. LE-1000 Driving Simulator (utilized during practical scenarios)
  • HUFCOR room with moveable walls that can be reconfigured (active shooter scenarios, dispute scenarios, building searches, & crime scenes)
  • Force-on-Force training with force marking cartridges
  • Dedicated firearms range (off-site)
  • On-site physical training facility
  • Computer access center for student use
  • Laptops for class use (CRASH reporting, report writing, research, & online course work)

The facility also offers a break room/lunch area with a sink, coffee maker, refrigerators, microwaves, ice machines, and TVs.  A locker-room section, with showers, is also provided inside both of the male and female bathroom areas.

PREREQUISITES

All students must be employed by or have an academy sponsorship by a Texas public safety agency to be eligible to attend the Denton Training Academy.
