DESCRIPTION

Emergency responders across the United States daily face unconventional weapons known IEDs in an age of violent criminals and terrorism. Participants will learn about:

  • Explosives Safety
  • How to define an explosion
  • Be able to name two general types of explosives
  • Be able to define an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
  • The Minimum Components of IED
  • An overview of fusing systems for IEDs
  • The proper safety on IED incidents
  • Be able to safely assess suspicious objects, packages, or letters
  • Understand the basis of blast evidence collection and forensics
  • Intelligence gathering
  • Public information on explosives and IEDs
  • Discuss the appearance of nitroglycerin based dynamites that have been stored improperly

PREREQUISITES

There are no prerequisites for this class but participants will be provided two hours of pre-course study material prior to the class.
