This course is required, during orientation, for all new Denton PD officers. All officers wanting to improve their skills at locating, identifying and arresting intoxicated drivers are welcome. Part of this course will be spent reviewing the DWI reporting system known as LEADRS - Law Enforcement Advanced DUI/DWI Reporting System.
After this instruction, the student will be able to:
1. Explain the criminal elements of Driving While Intoxicated.
2. Describe where our authority to arrest for DWI’s comes from.
3. Recognize strategies for overcoming unusual circumstances in DWI investigations.
4. Identify strategies for DWI road side investigations.
5. Recognize common signs of non-alcohol intoxication.
6. Identify proper procedure to complete a DWI report.
