DESCRIPTION
In 2015, the Texas Legislature passed HB 910 (Open Carry) and SB 11 (Campus Carry). There has been wide spread debate over the enforcement of these new statutes and the legal issues associated with enforcement. This class will cover, in detail, the provisions of each of the new statutes and provisions of the handgun licensing statute that were left in place. We will revisit state and constitutional law on consensual encounters, investigatory stops, lawful detention, failure to identify, and lawful arrest.
Included topics:
Review of Texas Penal Code Firearms Statutes
Applicable Case Law
Recent AG Opinions
Department Policy Examples
PREREQUISITES
