DESCRIPTION

This Basic Instructor Certification course is designed to provide the basic concepts of instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. This course introduces the student to the teaching-learning process, phases of the teaching-learning process, factors affecting learning, preparing a lesson plan, and methods of instruction. The students will be taught how to develop and use instructional media to enhance their presentations. In addition, the fundamental techniques of developing testing and evaluation procedures will be presented. Each trainee must demonstrate the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively instruct a lesson during two teaching exercises which will be evaluated by two instructors.  A written exam will also be given at the end of the course in which students must score a minimum of 70% to complete the course. 

 

 

PREREQUISITES

STUDENTS MUST BE EMPLOYED BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.

 

STUDENTS MUST HAVE Two years’ experience as a peace officer, telecommunicator, or jailer; or a bachelor’s degree and two years of teaching experience; or a graduate degree.

SPECIAL NOTES

The class is now 56 hours and is split over a weekend to allow students to prepare for their final presentations and the written exam at the end of the course. Dress for the classroom portion of the course is business casual.  For their presentations students should wear uniforms or a topic appropriate professional dress style.

A laptop is required for this course.  It must have Microsoft Word and Power Point on it and have the ability to connect to WiFi.
